She pointed out that screens, in all their forms, have become humans’ window to the world, their source of knowledge and communication, but at the same time, they have turned into an invisible barrier that isolates people from themselves and their surroundings. This statement was made during the opening speech of the seminar organized by the International Higher Institute of Media at Al-Shorouk Academy, attended by Major General Dr. Ahmed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Academy Board, Dr. Mohamed Shoman, Vice Chairman, Dr. Elham Younis, Vice Dean, faculty members, staff, and a wide attendance of students. Dr. Suheir Saleh highlighted that the importance of the seminar lies in opening a dialogue on how to balance technology and humanity, emphasizing that technology is a means, not an end, and that humans must remain at the center of the media ecosystem because “the mind leads the machine, not the other way around.” She added that the International Higher Institute of Media believes that media production is not based on technology alone but on human and ethical awareness, noting the institute’s commitment to preparing students who combine academic knowledge, critical thinking, and professional integrity, enabling them to practice responsible media that keeps pace with development without losing its human essence. Dr. Suheir also expressed pride in the presence of distinguished figures from the media and cultural sectors, who have contributed over decades to instilling values of awareness, knowledge, and beauty through responsible speech and a patriotic stance, noting that their participation provides significant intellectual enrichment for media students. She extended her sincere thanks to Major General Dr. Ahmed Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Academy Board, and Dr. Mohamed Shoman, Vice Chairman, for their continuous support of scientific and cultural activities aimed at expanding media students’ horizons and fostering a generation with critical insight and professional responsibility toward societal issues. She concluded her speech with a message to media students: “The call for a ‘Day Without Screens’ is not an invitation to withdraw from reality, but a call to reflect on ourselves, review the content we consume and the media messages we produce, and give our minds a chance to rest and our hearts room for genuine human interaction away from virtual noise. True media brings people together rather than isolating them, and technology must remain a tool for elevating the human mind, not confining it within the screen.”
